Sydney Irwin Pollack (1 juli 1934 – 26 mei 2008) was een Amerikaanse filmregisseur, producent en acteur. Pollack staat bekend om het regisseren van commercieel en kritisch geprezen studiofilms. Tijdens zijn veertigjarige carrière ontving hij talrijke onderscheidingen, waaronder twee Academy Awards en twee Primetime Emmy Awards, naast nominaties voor drie Golden Globe Awards en zes BAFTA Awards. Pollack won de Academy Awards voor Beste Regisseur en Beste Film voor Out of Africa (1985). Hij werd ook genomineerd voor een Academy Award voor Beste Regisseur voor They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) en Tootsie (1982). Pollacks andere opmerkelijke films zijn onder andere Jeremiah Johnson (1972), The Way We Were (1973), The Yakuza (1974), Three Days of the Condor (1975), Absence of Malice (1981), The Firm (1993) en Sabrina (1995). Pollack produceerde en speelde in Michael Clayton (2007), en produceerde talrijke films, waaronder The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989), Sense and Sensibility (1995), The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Iris (2001), Cold Mountain (2003) en The Reader (2008).
