Your data
Delete your Kino account.
Or just some of your data. How to ask, what happens next, and what we keep afterwards.
Last updated: 30 September 2026
In the app
This is the quickest way, and it is the same on iPhone and Android. Open Kino, go to your profile and tap Settings, then Account & security, then Delete account, and confirm with Schedule deletion.
That is all. You do not need to write to us, and nobody at Kino has to approve it.
Want a copy first? Settings, then Privacy, then Export your data builds a download of your profile, reviews, watches, lists and the rest of what you have added.
Without the app
If Kino is no longer on your phone, email privacy@kinoapp.eu from the address you use for Kino and ask us to delete your account. Your username helps, but you do not need it.
Before we delete anything, we write to the address on the account and ask you to confirm from there, so nobody can delete an account that is not theirs by sending an email in your name. We will never ask for your password. If you cannot write from that address, for example because you signed in with Apple and hid your email, say so and we will find another way to confirm it is you.
We reply within two working days. Once you confirm, your account follows the same schedule as a deletion made in the app.
What happens next
- For 30 days, you can change your mind. Your account stays usable. Sign in and tap Keep my account to cancel.
- Before the 30 days are up, we email you a reminder.
- After 30 days, we delete your account and everything in it. It is deleted, not hidden.
- Within a further 30 days, whatever remains is permanently erased from our database, so the whole process takes at most 60 days. Our internal analytics copy follows within 10 days of that, and backups within 30.
If you pay for Kino: deleting your account does not cancel a subscription, because the store bills it, not us. Cancel it there first. Kino Plus is billed by the App Store: on iPhone, in Settings, under your Apple Account, then Subscriptions. A monthly contribution from the Android app is billed by Google Play: in the Play Store, under Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
What we delete
- Your profile: your email address, username, name, bio and photo, and your password, which we only ever held as a hash.
- The link to Apple or Google, if you signed in with either.
- Everything you added to Kino: reviews, ratings, watches, lists, favourites, your watchlist, comments, reactions, follows and imports.
- Your settings, and the devices you receive notifications on.
- Your purchase history, and your record at RevenueCat, which tracks purchases for us.
- Feedback you sent from the app, screenshots included.
- Your usage data: your record at PostHog and the events attached to it.
- The copy of your activity in our internal analytics store, within 10 days of the rest.
- Your entry in our search index, and the recommendations we worked out from your activity, within about three weeks.
- Any data export still waiting to be downloaded, straight away.
What we keep, and for how long
A few records outlive the account on their own timers, because they keep Kino secure or because the law expects us to keep them.
- Encrypted backups: 30 days. Deleted data leaves them as they roll over, and we never restore a backup to bring deleted data back.
- Security audit records, such as sign-ins and account changes: 12 months. The IP address and browser or device details in them are removed after 90 days.
- Records of what our permission checks allowed or refused: up to 36 months.
- Application logs and request traces: 7 days.
- Reports you filed about someone else's content: while the report is handled, and for a reasonable period afterwards so patterns of abuse can be seen.
- Transaction records: the messages Apple and RevenueCat send us about each purchase, 7 years, because Dutch bookkeeping law requires us to keep the records behind our income.
- Purchase records held by Apple or Google: kept under their own rules. We cannot delete those for you.
Delete some data, and keep your account
You do not have to delete your account to remove something from Kino.
- Something you added, such as a review, a watch, a list or a comment: delete it in the app, from where it appears. It goes from Kino straight away and is erased from our database within 30 days. Our internal analytics copy follows within 10 days of that, and backups within 30.
- Your name, bio or photo: clear or change them in Edit profile.
- Usage data: turn off Share usage data, under Settings, then Privacy. The app stops sending anything from that moment. To have what was already sent deleted, write to us.
- A message you sent through the contact form, or your place on the waitlist: write to us and we delete it.
- Anything else: write to privacy@kinoapp.eu and tell us what you want deleted. We confirm with the address on your account before we delete anything.
